Agwunobi received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

Agwunobi has held various positions in the healthcare sector, including serving as the Assistant Secretary for Health in the United States Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush. He was also the Senior Vice President and Chief Health and Nutrition Officer at Walmart and served on the board of directors for a number of healthcare organizations.

Agwunobi currently serves as the CEO of Herbalife Nutrition, a global nutrition company. He is also a member of the board of directors for the U.S. African Development Foundation and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
